When we start looking at implementing technology we really need to think about what type of return that we will receive on the investment. In some cases, it is immediate. We might save money monthly based on some new technology and the return is almost immediate. In alot of cases, the return is not always evident in a monthly savings. We may be saving manpower, but that is not always visible on the bottom line. However, we are enabling our staff to make more efficient use of their time. It may be convience that allows us to do work outside of the office. Keep in mind that there is a cost to technology, but we need to weigh it against the benefits that we receive. Too often I see people who just look at the bottom line and ignore the return that would be received. Technology is a tool to support and aide ministry. We as technology professionals in the church need to see ourselves as ministers helping to provide tools to reach the world for Christ. The journey of a technology professional in ministry is not always easy, but we always need to remember why we do what we do. More importantly, Who we do it for.
